MUSIC & ART

interdisciplinary project

“Art painting allows people to feel different emotions through the colours and figures. Music intensifies these emotions through different sounds and nuances.”

As a saxophonist, Sonja regularly collaborates with artists from various disciplines to create innovative performances. This always results in new and varied concert formats.

A small insight into her most recent project in Vienna, together with the artist Udo Hohenberger.

SOMNIUM DUO

contemporary music duo

As the Latin word ‘somnium’ (dream) indicates, the two young musicians Sonja Oberkofler and Mark Seres have set themselves the goal of creating new repertoire in contemporary music and sharing it with the world.

With the two instruments saxophone and guitar, the duo creates fascinating new soundscapes – a rarely heard line-up.

The use of the electric guitar and various saxophones, often complemented by live electronics, opens up completely new possibilities in the development of the repertoire.

SAGS QUARTET

saxophone quartet

The quartet’s name is derived from the German word ‘sag’s’, which means ‘say it’. It is a symbol of their mission to communicate with the audience through music.

The ensemble’s repertoire includes original works as well as arrangements of classical and contemporary music that reflect the various tonal facets of the saxophone.

The four musicians also enrich the music with poems by renowned South Tyrolean authors.

MUSIC OUTREACH

music unlocked

“Music is a language everyone understands, yet sometimes it needs a translator.

Music mediation/outreach builds bridges between the art and its audience. The goal is to make sound worlds approachable, break down barriers and deepen musical understanding in a playful way. This opens up a dedicated space for genuine, emotional encounters with music.”

In her interactive workshops and concerts, Sonja brings classical and contemporary music directly to where the audience of tomorrow is: schools and theaters.
With great passion and an open mind, she and her ensembles create spaces where children and young people can discover sounds in entirely new ways. Her goal is to make music not just audible, but tangible as a vibrant and personal experience.

BREMER STADSMUZIKANTEN

music theater for children

The Dutch musical theatre, which was awarded the Junior Grachtenfestival Prize in 2017, has been performed at various festivals such as the Grachtenfestival, Oranjewoud, Theater Boulevard and Festival Classique, as well as in primary schools.

The German folk tale by the Brothers Grimm comes to life in a musical performance for children to familiarise them with classical music and introduce them to the various instruments – flute, saxophone and trombone.
